Take Care of
Your Well-Being: What You Fill Your Head With
Your focus right now is learning new
things, writing papers and taking exams. What you fill your
head with is going to have a huge impact on your learning
and, especially, on your stress levels.
So, what do I mean by “what you
fill your head with?” I’m talking about what you watch on
TV (especially right before you go to bed), what music you
listen to and what you listen to on the radio (the non-music
stuff).
I’ll hit each of the above, but, in
general, you want to avoid filling your head with a bunch of
negative junk!
Let’s talk television… The very
worst thing you can do is to watch the news right before you
go to bed at night! Hey, all the local news shows do is
tell you about all the terrible things that happened in your
city that day and it’s a huge downer. Hearing all that
stuff is definitely stressful and not what you want your
mind to be thinking about while you sleep. Yes, the last
thing you put into your head is what your mind with think
about and dream about all night. In fact, I’m not a fan of
you watching TV news at all. I’m not saying that you
shouldn’t know what’s going on in your world. You should!
It's important that you know what's going on in the world,
so you should watch the "world news," if anything. The least stressful way to
get your world news info is to just
check out the front pages of the newspaper (doing that
online is the easiest.) World news talks about politics,
the economy – the big stuff. Local news talks about the
latest baby who was found in a dumpster and THIS you do NOT
need to know about.
Two other types of shows to avoid
before bedtime are the cop and medical dramas. Yeah, some
of these are really good shows, but we are talking about
your stress levels here. Seeing people get hurt and die
(and you know someone always bites it on these shows) is not
what you want to fill your head with. If you really want to
watch them, tape them for a weekend or afternoon viewing. |
